Have you ever been in the position where your sights are limited, sometimes controlled by others, and then something happens to dramatically shift and expand your perspective? Such was the case with me this month. In other words, I can sit on my own now! It is pretty cool. I can turn side to side and see what is going on. And I can cultivate my curiosity by, for example, picking up a variety of soft or hard or rattly toys. Sometimes I test out if my chosen toy feels better in my right hand or in my left.
But given the chance I will still try to pull up to my feet. I enjoy back and forth stomping, and even put my best foot forward sometimes.
I've been growing and getting bigger too. I had my 6-month doctor appointment (a few weeks after turning 6
months) and was 16 lbs 4 oz (20%) and 50% for height. I have new sleep sacks (well Amma says they were Anna Kavi's, but they are new to me) and new clothes. I out-grew my little bassinet that I was sleeping in so now I sleep on the bed next to Amma. I like to sleep on my side (though unfortunately for Amma I still wake up around every three hours to nurse).
I tried more foods this month - I am partial to sweet potatoes, winter squash, and carrots. Oatmeal and apples are just okay. I am getting much better at actually eating - I even open my mouth for the things I like.Have you ever tried 'screaming' when you are happy? I do this cute small-scream sometimes when I am having a good time. Amma thought it was a little unusual at first, but I only do it occasionally so it turns out it is kinda cute.
I love my anna Kavi a lot. We hang out every morning and evening and on the weekends. Sometimes we board the 'Kavi-Amma-Thambi' train and walk to his school in the morning. He usually brings me toys (though occasionally he seems to want the one I have). He bounces me in my bouncy chair (usually not too hard). He gives me hugs and kisses. He has even tried to feed me a few times - Amma just lets him pretend feed me the plastic fruit.
We all took a trip to Colorado Springs for the long weekend. There were some beautiful red rocks (and a cool mountain in the background). And we visited this really cool zoo on the mountainside where we saw giraffes up close and heard lions and tigers roar (highly recommended for any who like zoos).
The month also brought visits with old friends, laughing with grandpa and grandma, hikes around town, playing with my baby friend M, saying goodbye to Justine who took care of me at school, following flying butterflies at the Butterfly Pavilion, and even a party.
Thank you God for my strength, for my family, for butterflies, for snow suits, and for sweet potatoes.
